South Berkshire District Scouts

Explorers are young people, usually aged between 14 and 18 years old. They make up the fourth section of the Scouting family after Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

Structure and meetings

A group of Explorers is called a Unit.

Not all Units meet every week, partly due to activities, holidays, exams and the other commitments that crop up in a teenager's life, and also because Explorers tend to get out and about at weekends more often than other sections.

Activities

Explorers often get the chance to work with other Explorers in their District, not just their own Unit, so can take part in an even wider spectrum of activities.

There is also a range of ambitious badges and awards, through which Explorers can demonstrate their proficiencies and expand their interests.

District Conference Update
20/02/2018 By Graeme Thompson

Its now less than a month to go to our District Conference.  Please make sure that everyone is aware and encouraged to come to this.  There is a lot of cost and effort being put into this event in order to make it fun and informative for all those involved in Scouting in our District.  If you haven't yet registered (there is an online form) then be prepared to be chased by your ADC, the District Team, your Group Scout Leader or even me!  Lets have a great day with all the District Leaders and Exec members together.  Graeme

Blog | District JOTI/JOTA
21/10/2017 By Kirsty Aldridge

We have held our district JOTI / JOTA event at 1st Sandhurst HQ.

We had radio stations contacting people as far afield as Canada, Croatia. Internet chat talking to people from over 30 different countries.

We had over 60 scouts from 3 troops on the Friday night.

They cracked codes in morse code, enigma on pringles, sempahore, using walkie talkie radios, working as a team to 'diffuse the bomb', making electronic radio and morse code circuits and generally having a lot of fun. one member of each troop was rewarded for their efforts with a small prize.

Saturday saw two drop in sessions attended by over 16 young people from beavers to explorer from 6 different groups to cover their digital citizen stage 1 and 2 and for some their communications badges.

Thanks very much to Andy and Oliver who laid on the equipment and infrastructure to make this event possible. Here's to next year...
